The Start Of The Rooster Year
Wednesday, 16 February 2005
It's been quite an experience so far. This is my first Chinese New Year ushered in not with my immediate family, but with my in-laws. At first I felt the soreness of missing being with my parents and Lionel. Then Han gently reminded me that we all have much to be thankful for, instead of focusing on what we don't already have. Which is true. Really puts you into a different frame of mind if you were to think like that.
Anyway, I've been a tad overwhelmed by chinese culture over the past few days. I babbled some newly-learned (and promptly forgotten) mandarin phrases to my in-laws on the morning of the 1st day while serving them glasses of water. What followed were several rounds of visits to relatives, meals at friends' homes, having waves of visitors descend on the house and of course, bearing with the scorching heat outdoors. Here are some photos of Han's family:
Here are Han's parents.
These are his sisters, Su An and Su Fei.
That's Han and myself.
Newest addition to the family--a very 'deh' 7-month-old beagle.
I'll have to break up this post, otherwise it'll never get on the blog. More pictures and stories on the way.
