Post-Penang Recovery Phase

Monday, 24 August 2009

Before August arrived, I was viewing the month with the same kind of wariness that one has while teetering at the edge of a cliff, looking down at the ravine below that you know won't have anything to break your fall once you step off. Everything will pass you by in a blurry haze and you wonder what your next move could possibly be just to experience each moment in itself, instead of anticipating what's coming. Lionel's wedding has come and gone, so has our big expedition to Penang with the children. A first for us to have our two mobile toddlers go on such a long car ride--7 hours up north, then 6 hours back to KL.

I must say, I'm very proud of both Brandon and Andrea for being however they were over the weekend. They squealed, laughed, screamed, cried, threw some tantrums because they were hungry/tired/overstimulated. But they never failed to charm everyone (even when I was on the verge of pulling out my hair when Brandon bawled because he didn't get something he wanted). I guess what mattered at the end of the day was that all the aunties, uncles, grandparents and friends all thought they were both angels.

All these good thoughts I share in hindsight, of course. Han was a hero, calm and collected throughout. Thank god for my rock. 😡

Now I'm planning how to approach the week now that both kids are down with a potentially nasty flu. Pity that it's the holiday week as well, otherwise we could spend more time in the pool or running about in the park. For now it's focusing on making sure Brandon's cough doesn't get out of hand, and that both their fevers are kept in check. Brandon's got it worse, from the looks of it. Andrea seems to be getting better with every round of sleep she has.

If anyone has tips on how to make a spirited 2-year-old take his medicine, please share them with me. I don't want to repeat last night's wrestling match with him.
