Cruel Mind Games

Friday, 11 July 2008

It must've been so hard on my parents this week.

After the first diagnostic scan that uncovered the bone metastasis in my mom, my parents went down to Singapore for a second opinion on treatment options. The doctor there, who schooled with my father till sixth form in Penang, offered some hope--he said that radiation would suffice to treat her condition, and that she could have it done in Singapore.

With that bit of positive news, they went again to consult yet another doctor in Pantai Hospital, who was previously working under my dad's friend in Singapore. Now, he said that mom could have the treatment done in Pantai as the machine they had was newer and better than the one in Singapore. Plus it would cost less. My parents were in favour of this option because at least she could still see the grandchildren in between treatments.

Then during a scan that was meant to prepare her for the treatment at Pantai, the doctors found that there were 'abnormalities in the lungs'. Today my mom went in for yet another diagnostic scan, which revealed that the cancer has moved on to her lungs...

...and liver.

Chemotherapy starts tomorrow morning.

Please pray for her. I don't know what else I can say or do to make any difference to how she must be feeling at this point. Or my dad.
