Olympic Torch Just Went Past Our Office
Monday, 21 April 2008
At the sound of police sirens, my colleague rushed to the nearby window and proclaimed that the Olympic torch bearers were indeed coming through the street downstairs despite the heavy downpour. There's not much to see from up here on the 23rd floor--we couldn't make out who was running, nor the other fellas trailing the motorcade who were bearing red flags (I hope they weren't protestors)--but the flame itself cut through the curtain of rain, a tiny lick of orange light.
I think it was just because I was so far away from the scene, but it was kinda underwhelming. :p But hey, at least we actually saw the flame pass by our office! I heard from the other staff (who promptly jumped into the lifts to watch the procession from the lobby) that when the torch reached our office junction the flame went out because of the rain, and that the runners climbed back into the bus to have it re-lit. Oops.
The entourage will wind up at KLCC at 7pm this evening.
