About Generation Y
Wednesday, 23 May 2007
Kotak passed me this article to read today. Apart from being fascinatingly informative (it was as if the author had, in the course of her research for this piece, included me in her list of interviewees), I quite enjoyed her style of writing. Maybe I’m just out of touch with editorials.
The author postulates that these are exciting times for Gen Y. An interviewee was quoted as saying that, “they’re also going to be the most high-performing workforce in the history of the world. They walk in with more information in their heads, more information at their fingertips - and, sure, they have high expectations, but they have the highest expectations first and foremost for themselves”.
On the other hand, Gen Y is also accused of not knowing hardship, leaning on the subconscious comfort that their parents would gladly welcome them back into their family homes. Spoilt? Perhaps. ![]()
Anyway, I don’t really have conclusions to draw. The article was a good time filler to an otherwise slow afternoon at the office. I’m definitely not part of the high-performing Gen Y crowd right now!
