Finally Learning To Budget

Thursday, 28 September 2006

Credit cards are EVIL, and I'm really awful at budgeting.

After years of happily spending ahead of my earnings, it's finally crunch time. We're literally not buying Anything else apart from necessities so as to avoid having to swipe the cards. By the end of the year, we hope to be debt free...but this is proving to be a lot more difficult than I initially thought.

For starters, we got hit by our insurance premiums all at once--life, medical and PA. Then we found out from our agent that we still owed him half of last year's life insurance premium because he had paid it on our behalf (it's a complicated story). He also forgot to remind us about it, hence the additional burden now. Later we received RM200+ TNB bill (because they had an artificially low usage estimate for the previous month). Then the bill for our apartment's management fees for the coming quarter.

To make it worse, Isetan's having its 16th anniversary sales! Snowfly's ankle-high boots at 70% off, jeans for 16 bucks. I could really use some looser clothes, as nearly all my trousers and skirts are getting uncomfortably tight. 🙁 Today I went there to buy a gift for Han's colleague whose wedding we're attending this weekend, but I can't even think of buying Han a new shirt for the occasion. :((

Still, there's no point staying miserable for long. Gotta just keep believing that we can manage our finances better, even more so that we've got a little one to think about too.

One more aspect of reality has sunk its teeth in. Heartily.

Hey friend,

I can actually help you with a 3 step formula that you don’t ever have to do budgeting again after 3 months and still end up enough to retire after 20 years:)

Miaow: Welcome back from autmny UK! Thanks SO much for the dress offer. Will give you a buzz soon. 😀

Soo Aun: Best wishes to you too…watch your purse when it comes to modding your car, okay?

Patrick C: Do share it with all of us, I think we could all use some tips on how to make sure our cash doesn’t run away!

KOtak: Insurance–a necessity, but why is it that they’re so painful to pay for? Having a competent agent to service you makes a whole world of difference, I think. House lights? Is everyone in the family paying for a certain portion of the house reno works? And yes, I agree with you on babydoll dresses! They’re so pretty, now that I think about it…

Yeah Credit Cards ARE evil aren’t they. Worked with AMEX a long while back and it successfully put me off the damn things. I still refuse to get one :p Good luck with the finances. I’m still shite at it and I only have to think for myself!! :-s
